The people behind Throughline
Throughline brings together neuroscience-backed storytelling methodology and decades of real-world corporate communication experience.
The methodology
Award-winning journalist · Neuroscience communicator · Adjunct Professor
Sophie Scott is a multi-award-winning journalist and health reporter who has spent more than twenty years translating complex evidence into stories that move people to act. She received the Order of Australia (OAM) for her services to broadcast journalism and community health.
As the former national medical reporter for the ABC, Sophie covered some of Australia's most significant health stories, learning firsthand that the gap between evidence and action is almost always a communication problem. That experience led her to develop the storytelling framework at the heart of Throughline: a structured, repeatable method for turning complex material into clear, compelling communication.
Sophie is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Sydney, a TEDx speaker, and a LinkedIn Top Voice. She works with organisations across health, research, government, and the private sector, helping leaders and teams communicate with clarity and impact.

The strategy
Founder, Cornerstone Media · Communication strategist · 40+ years in media
Phil Carey is a communication strategist with more than forty years of professional experience spanning journalism, broadcasting, corporate communication, and executive advisory. He founded Cornerstone Media in 1993, applying broadcast storytelling principles to the business world.
Phil's career began in Australian television and radio journalism, where he worked as a producer and presenter learning to distil complex narratives into concise, impactful messaging. That foundation shaped his approach to corporate communication: every message should be structured, clear, and built for its audience.
Through Cornerstone Media, Phil has worked with many of Australia's leading organisations on leadership communication, executive speech preparation, corporate storytelling, and high-stakes messaging. He brings the strategic and commercial layer to Throughline, the understanding of how organisations actually need to communicate under pressure.
Phil is also the author of the upcoming book The Curiosity Advantage (2026), and speaks on the intersection of communication and AI adoption.
